From 2012 through 2016 the Council has analyzed the Village's Tree Ordinance, producing reports and recommendations. Our work identified potential issues with Village canopy, as many trees may be near their end of life. While the current Village canopy stands at a healthy 50%, this may decline over the coming years. Also of concern are changes in the way residents use their properties, where they site trees, and which trees they prefer. The CAC has sought to balance property rights while insuring the Village can maintain its image as a "Village In a Park" and of course, enjoy the many environmental, health, and aesthetic benefits specifically of large canopy trees.
