A property deed on record at the Westchester County Clerk's office contains its legal description, official property address, and owner(s) for all properties situated in Westchester County. The information transcribed from this document is used by all municipalities for assessment and tax billing purposes.
It can take at least six weeks or longer after a property is sold or transferred for a new owner to be recorded on assessment and tax rolls at the local municipality. Please contact the Treasurer's Office at (914) 722-1170 to determine if your property has the correct name and mailing address.
Tax Billing
There are 3 property tax billings per year:
- April - Westchester County
- July - Village of Scarsdale
- September - Scarsdale School District
School and Village taxes can be paid in two installments. Taxes may be paid online.
Residents can also request to receive tax receipts, bills, and reminders via email.
If you do not receive a tax bill within the first week of the months listed above and your taxes are not paid through an escrow account, please call the Treasurer's Office at (914) 722-1170. Payment of taxes after the penalty free period, as specified on the tax bill, will incur a penalty.
Owner Responsibility
Per New York State statutes, the property owner is responsible for paying their property taxes and failure to receive a tax bill does not alleviate that responsibility.
Postdated Checks
Postdated checks cannot be accepted by the Treasurer’s Office. Any postdated check will be returned to the issuer.
If you will be away during the tax collection period, you may pay your taxes online until 11:30pm on the last day of the collection period, or you can make arrangements for a friend or family member to deliver your check. All payment envelopes must be hand stamped by the post office by 12am on the last day of the collection period.
