Book Recycling is Available at the Scarsdale Recycling Center!
The Book Recycling program is part of our community’s ongoing commitment to increase recycling and reduce waste. Scarsdale residents may now bring their books to the Recycling Center at 110 Secor Road during regular Recycling Center hours, which are Monday through Saturday, from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
How It Works
Bring all of your unwanted books – in any condition! - to the Recycling Center’s Book Recycling bin. The bin is located next to the green Textile Recycling bins.
What Is Accepted
Hard and soft cover books in any condition.
Benefits of Recycling Books
Books in good condition will be re-used. Books that are in good condition will be either sold or donated.
Books in unusable condition will be recycled. It is a common misperception that books can be recycled with paper recycling. Because of the glue on the spines of softcover books, and because of the hard covers in hardcover books, paper recycling via the Village’s weekly paper recycling program is not an option for books.
The good news is that Scarsdale Village has found a company that both reuses and recycles books. For recycling, they utilize special machinery that slices the glue off the book spines and remove the covers from hardcover books allowing any unusable books to be recycled.
Lessening Waste. By reusing and recycling our books properly, Scarsdale will be reducing waste and contribute to all of the three Rs: reduction, reuse and recycling.
