In December 2015, Governor Andrew Cuomo directed the New York State Department of Public Service (DPS) to develop a Clean Energy Standard (CES) program. The CES mandates that by the year 2030, half of the electricity used in the State will come from renewable resources such as solar, wind and hydro. The Governor also directed the DPS to explore ways to keep emission-free nuclear power facilities operational to continue New York's greenhouse gas emissions reductions. Proposed as a core component of Governor Cuomo's Reforming the Energy Vision, the benefits of the CES are highlighted in a complementary factsheet at the www.ny.gov website and searching for "Clean Energy Standard."
