Annual Budget Process Starting

There never seems to be enough time to do the things you want to do, once you find them -- Jim Croce. While he wasn't in love with budgeting, his timeless lyrics are nonetheless budget-relevant. First, we never have enough money to do what we want to do. Second, we have a range of wants -- and needs -- that call for prioritization. Third, our priorities and supporting expenditures are future-looking, nurturing our relationship with something we know, love, and cherish: Our Village in a Park. Help shape the 2020-21 Village budget, starting tonight!

Freightway Process On-Hold

Thank you to all residents that have taken time from their busy schedules to participate in shaping the future of potential Freightway Site redevelopment. The Village Board related, "We are listening to your feedback . . . the community is not comfortable with this process. As such, we are putting a hold on the Freightway timeline. A preferred developer will not be chosen unless and until more appropriate starting points and data are provided and presented to the Board and to the community." Coffee with the Mayor

The next Coffee with the Mayor is scheduled for Wednesday, January 22, from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM, at the cafe in Balducci's, 15 Palmer Avenue. Trustee Seth Ross will join Mayor Samwick as part of the Village Board's continuing commitment to meeting with community members, listening to their concerns, and provide opportunity for candid conversation in a convenient, informal setting. Please drop-in to simply say hello, or to discuss any topic of your choice. Marc and Seth look forward to chatting with you.

Mayor For a Day

Here in Scarsdale, the Mayor and Village Board are not compensated, yet spend countless hours trying to continue to make Scarsdale a highly desirable place to live, work, and play. It's a tough job requiring personal sacrifice and confronting many difficult decisions. Every year, a Scarsdale youth is designated "Mayor for a Day." Hailing from Fox Meadow Elementary, 10 year-old Aaron Anders was the lucky kid this year. Mayor Anders toured facilities and led the pledge at Tuesday's Village Board meeting. Asked for his top priority as Mayor, he targeted a tough policy position: More snow days!

Village Board Meeting Update

The January 14 Village Board agenda was rather light, having included authorization for the wildly popular Scarsdale Music Festival to occur in September 2020 (p. 31) and other items. The Scarsdale Concours, responsible for the annual Village Center Car Show, presented gift checks to SFCS, the SPBA, and SVAC. Please note that the Scarsdale Volunteer Ambulance Corp, a critical public amenity not funded through your taxes, is in desperate need of YOUR financial support. The next Regular Meeting is scheduled for January 28, 2020, at 8:00 PM.
