Plastic Bag Ban - #BYOBagNY

Over 23 billion plastic bags are used in New York each year, resulting in a variety of community and environmental impacts. However, starting this Sunday, March 01, 2020, a new statewide plastic bag waste reduction law goes into effect, banning all plastic carryout bags (with limited exceptions) from distribution by anyone required to collect New York sales tax. If you haven't already shifted to reusable bags, now is the time! It is recommended that reusable bags be washable and designed for multiple uses, such as those made of cloth. #BYOBagNY.

Coffee with the Mayor

The much anticipated next-in-series Coffee with the Mayor is scheduled for Tuesday, March 03, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM, at the Village Center Starbucks, 51 East Parkway. The Coffee is an opportunity to chat with Mayor Samwick and Trustee Lena Crandall in an informal conversational setting as part of the Village Board's continuing commitment to providing convenient access to key Scarsdale officials. There's no pre-set agenda, so please drop-in to discuss any subject of interest or concern. Marc & Lena look forward to seeing you at Starbucks!

New Assessor, Victoria Sirota

Congratulations to the new Town Assessor, Victoria Sirota! Ms. Sirota has served the Village of North Castle as their Sole Appointed Assessor since 2012 and is enthusiastic about the opportunity to serve Scarsdale. In addition to meeting all applicable New York State standards for the appointment, Ms. Sirota also holds the distinction of being a New York State Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and is a member of the Institute of Assessing Officers (IAO). Her term commences March 09, 2020. Stop by to say hi after Victoria gets started!

Parks and Rec Day Camp Info Night

Join Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department personnel for Camp Parent Information Night on Wednesday, March 11, at 6:00 PM in Rutherford Hall. All prospective camp parents are encouraged to meet the Camp Directors and ask questions regarding the 2020 camp season. Please also note that early registration for our ever-popular camps, as well as other fun and exciting Spring/Summer programs, opens at 9:00 AM on Monday, March 02. Early bird Day Camp special rates end Friday, April 03, so don’t miss out on this opportunity!

Village Board Meeting Update

The February 25 Village Board agenda featured many items, including a Request for Amendments to New York State Criminal Justice Reforms (p. 70), Authorization to Conduct the 50th Annual 15K/4M Road Races (p. 85), and others. Village Manager Pappalardo provided an update on Coronavirus local readiness, as well. The next Regular Meeting is scheduled for March 10, 2020, at 8:00 PM. Check the calendar for other upcoming meetings and Board of Trustee Work Sessions, including the next FY 2020-21 Budget Briefing Session on March 04, 2020, at 7:00 PM.
