Popham Firehouse Basement Construction (jpg)

Popham Rd. Firehouse Renovation

<== Look what's happening in the Popham Road Firehouse! The Firehouse, Station 1, had become structurally deficient and the door heights were also unable to accommodate modern fire apparatus. The Village Board authorized necessary construction contracts in January 2017. The ongoing work, to be completed in 2019, includes structural stabilization, interior remodeling, and lowering of the service driveway three feet in order to achieve 14' door heights. The $4.3M project also employs exterior architectural preservation techniques.

Invasive Species Week: 7/9 - 7/15

It's New York State Invasive Species Awareness Week, and Scarsdale just received a $24,500 grant to help battle Japanese Knotweed along the South Fox Meadow watercourse! Invasive species are not native to an area and may cause significant harm to human health, the economy, or the environment. Residents are encouraged to recognize invasive species and take steps to help stop their spread. Among others, Garlic Mustard and Mugwort are locally common invasive plant species. Help spread the word, not the plants: #NYInvasiveAwareness.

Pedestrian Safety: See. Be Seen.

Who is responsible for pedestrian safety? The short answer is: YOU! Yes, everyone shares responsibility for helping to reduce the incidence of pedestrian-involved crashes, including drivers and pedestrians. Nationally, over 5,376 pedestrians were killed in 2015, which averages one crash-related pedestrian death every six hours. On average, nine pedestrians are killed each year in Westchester County, alone. Click here to read more about how you can help promote pedestrian safety and make Scarsdale a safer, more enjoyable place to walk and bike.

Village Board Meeting Update

At its July 11, 2017 meeting, the Village Board authorized the purchase of a new 1500 GPM Pumper Fire Engine (p. 37) to replace another aging fire apparatus. The purchase was scheduled as part of the Fire Apparatus Reorganization and Replacement Plan, targeting both fleet modernization and operational cost savings. Also approved were resolutions for a firefighters' "Fill the Boot" fundraising campaign to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association (p. 43), and a contract to purchase new recycling and trash bins for our parks (p. 46).

Although the system automatically refreshes landline phone numbers once per month, residents are encouraged to sign-up in order to provide additional preferred points of contact, which are only used in bonafide emergencies. All personal information contained in Blackboard Connect is held in strict confidence, only accessible by authorized public safety personnel for emergency purposes.
