Rock you like a . . .Hurricane. A number of significant natural disasters have occurred this year on the national level, ranging from wildfires in the west, to Hurricane Harvey in Texas, and most recently Hurricane Irma in Florida and the Caribbean. Scarsdale Official extends our deepest sympathies to the millions of people impacted by such events. Super Storm Sandy is still fresh in the minds of many Scarsdalians, as well. Among the most important proactive things one can do is PREPARE for disasters. Have a plan, practice it, and work it when needed.

Run, Forrest, . . . err, Brian, Run!Yep. He's an everyday Olympian, and he's one of our very own. Scarsdale Firefighter Brian Hughes participated in the 2017 World Police and Fire Games in Los Angeles last month, having won a Silver Medal in the two-day Decathlon event. In addition, Brian's 2015 Decathlon performance resulted in the current Master B Class record for that sport -- incredible, Brian! Here's some parting Scarsdale Official bear country wisdom, readers: You don't need to run the fastest; you only need to run faster than the slowest person you are with. Be fit, be well.

9/11 Memorial ServiceThe Village of Scarsdale joined with millions of Americans on Monday, September 11, 2017, to remember and honor the courageous, selfless First Responders that placed America's safety above their own on September 11, 2001. Village of Scarsdale Fire Department, Police Department, elected officials, staff, and others gathered for a somber 9/11 Memorial Service at the Public Safety Building, located at 50 Tompkins Road. Attendees were moved by speeches and song, including a fine rendition of Tom Paxton's, "The Bravest." #NeverForget.
