Tree Law Amendments Meeting

Did you know that there were over 700 trees removed from private property in Scarsdale in 2017, mostly in association with single family home renovations, additions, and new construction? A collaborative effort involving the Conservation Advisory Council, Friends of Scarsdale Parks, Village Staff, and others has been underway to develop proposed Tree Law amendments to achieve greater tree canopy protection and mandate enhanced mitigation measures when trees must be removed. So, the trick-or-treaters have gone, wildlife have likely capitalized on your unintended offering of food, and you're left with some semblance of Halloween artistry. Yes, the scary smile that is slowly drooping into a frown is telling you it's finally time to part ways. But how? Well, since the 2017 World Punkin Chunkin Championship was canceled, that's no longer an option; incidentally, we also prohibit launching pumpkins over neighboring property rooftops. Lawn Irrigation, Pools, and Leaks

The top three contributors to high residential water bills are lawn irrigation, pools, and leaks. If you recently received your bill for summer water usage, you may be feeling the water bill blues. To break the cycle, the Water Department encourages all water users to review our Water Conservation Tips and plan ahead of time to minimize water consumption. Our competitive water rate information is available online, and water revenues are only used for water-related expenses, including critical infrastructure maintenance and replacement.

Village Board Meeting Update

Among other important items, the November 14, 2017, Village Board Regular meeting agenda included authorization to accept the gift of an awesome $50,000 batting cage system from the Scarsdale Little League for Crossway Field #3 (p.175), and consent for Board of Architectural Review consideration of Heritage Tree designation of a Chase Park American Beech tree displaying a remarkable biological adaptation (p.162) Residents & other interested parties are encouraged to visit the Village Board Meeting Calendar to review the upcoming schedule.
