Historic Home in Trees (jpg)

If a Tree Falls in the Forest . . .

Philosophy and public policy are similar in some ways. For example, answer these questions: Is Scarsdale's Village in a Park character jeopardized by tree canopy loss, and if so, what additional measures are necessary to protect trees in the community? What is the proper balance between community interest and private property rights? Who should bear the burden of tree protection and replacement, and under what circumstance(s)? Have a perspective to share? Participate in the Tree Ordinance Review discussion to influence the outcome!

Water Main Repair (jpg)

Out of Sight, Out of Mind?

Out of sight, sure. Out of mind, nope. If you've experienced a water service disruption, you may be acutely aware of the condition of our underground infrastructure. Water mains, sewer mains, roads, buildings, and large equipment are all examples of major investments the Village must maintain, replace, and upgrade. Our capital needs are significant and the related expenses are funded through the Village's Five-Year Capital Plan, which will be discussed during an all-day public budget meeting starting at 10:30 AM on January 31, 2018.

Dog with Rabies Tag (jpg)

It's a Ruff Life

Did you know that New York State Law requires the owner of any dog reaching four months old to apply for a dog license? Licensed dogs are issued a metal tag, which is to be attached to the dog's collar. The Village Clerk's Office manages the dog licensing program and has published a Dog Brochure with important dog owner information. When you're walking your friend, please be sure to clean-up. Oh, and ICYMI, cat's don't need to be licensed. Not to rub your fur the wrong way, but isn't that purrrfect -- a NYS catvantage for feline aficionados!

Scarsdale Senior Citizen Trolley Trip (jpg)

What a Long, Strange Trip It's Been

... and our Scarsdale Senior Citizens are still traveling, enjoying one another's company, and adding to the rich diversity of experiences collected over a lifetime of seeing, doing, and interacting with others. They're not headed to the City of New Orleans, but they're certainly going On the Road Again. While it's no Marakesh Express, the Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation makes sure their touring coach transports them to and from some of the area's finest attractions. If you are a Scarsdale Senior Citizen, enjoy a Tuesday Trip adventure!

Village Board Meeting Update

The Village Board's Regular Meeting held on January 23, 2018, featured a light agenda, which included a resolution authorizing transfer of funding from the Library Children's Room Endowment to the Library Capital Campaign Account (p. 25). Prior to the Regular Meeting, there was a Joint meeting of the Village Board's Law and Sustainability Committees to discussed proposed tree ordinance amendments. Residents and other interested parties are encouraged to review the meeting calendar for important upcoming meetings, topics, and agendas.
