A New Chapter

The Scarsdale Public Library is closing on Sunday, June 24th, for renovation; the Children’s Room closes on Monday, June 18th. Beginning July 5th, the Library Loft, a temporary location operating under reduced hours and providing limited library services, will be available for library patrons at 244 Heathcote Road. Detailed information, including an outstanding project video by Sam Friedman, is available from the library website. Dedicated volunteers and community support through the Capital Campaign have made this project possible - thanks!

The Life you Save May be Your Own

In an emergency, seconds count. Imagine you're a police or fireman dispatched to a Scarsdale home. Arriving in the general area, you're unable to immediately identify the exact house you're supposed to respond to because one or more properties are missing visible addresses. It's an emergency, but the seconds are ticking away; resorting to other address identification tools takes more time. Not a good situation, of course. The absence of a visible property addresses places life and property at-risk. Please take time to properly display your home address.

Like Pets, Trees Need Proper Care

While trees are low-maintenance, they're not no-maintenance. The Arbor Day Foundation reports that proper tree care starts when you select a tree and that what you do to your tree in its first few years of life will affect its shape, strength, and even its life span. They have provided nine tree care tips that help guide how to select and establish a tree, as well as how to keep it healthy throughout its life cycle. Healthy trees add beauty and are more resistant to potentially damaging winds. Also see our Sustainable Landscaping Guidance.

Minnows are Good for Your Health

Yes, it's true, but don't start heating up the skillet or expect to see them on menues in trendy Brooklyn foodie spots. Rather, the Westchester County Health Department is targeting mosquito-borne diseases and free minnows are an integral component of their strategy. Public Works staff recently took delivery of some and released them at two locations: the culvert crossing on Boulevard at the New Rochelle border and a location on Barry Road. We hope to place more in the Hutchinson River drainage. Keep Healthy and Bug Off.
