FEMA Prepare Now Graphic (jpg)

Plan. Practice. Execute.

Were you prepared for the the storms this past spring? How did you fair during and after Superstorm Sandy? With the hurricane season now underway in earnest, it's a good time to revisit your family's level of emergency preparedness. Do you have a communications plan? How about an emergency kit? Have you practiced your plan? For many valid reasons, the governmental response to major disasters is rarely as quick as one in-need would hope, so individual and family emergency preparation is critical to staying safe during such an event. Plan Now.

Fluoridation -- it's not just a mildly tricky Spelling Bee word. As you may know, drinking fluoridated water keeps teeth strong and reduces tooth decay by about 25% in children and adults. Building upon a 2017 planning and engineering grant, and with thanks to Assemblywoman Amy Paulin for her support, the Village recently received a $260,000 New York State Department of Health grant to support needed capital  improvements to the Reeves Newsom Pumping Station's fluoridation system. Fluoridation is a NYSDOH priority.

Household Recycling Drop-Off

Westchester County has scheduled three upcoming Household Recycling drop-off days. The events offer residents the opportunity to recycle a variety of household hazardous waste and other materials requiring special handling, some of which is illegal to dispose of in one's regular trash. The Mobile Shredder will also be available for residents, only. Remember: Reduce, reuse, and recycleFor additional information, contact the Recycling Help Line at 914-813-5425 or visit the County's Household Material Recovery Facility website

Tennis Ball Recycling

Great Balls of Fire!

Goodness gracious, our tennis ball recycling program has been a success! Rather than entering the waste stream, the 2,000 -- yeah, TWO THOUSAND -- tennis balls Scarsdale tennis players recycled through the program this year found their way to Westchester County's Lakeland School District, where they will be reused as school chair sliders to reduce classroom noise. So, here's a hearty THANKS! to all of our residents that have participated in the program. Please encourage other players to utilize the bins, too. Got waste? Reduce, reuse, and recycle.
