Withered Pumpkin Carving (jpg)

What Now?

Those crisp carving lines have started to wrinkle and your pumpkin may be looking a bit squatty; unfortunately, it has seen better days. Since you've already missed the Punkin Chunkin World Championship, what now? Easy peasy, Scarsdalians, just chuck that punkin' in with your food scrap composting! It can be placed in, on top of, or beside your curbside food scrap bin, or it can also be dropped-off at the Recycling Center. Heck, it can even be placed with your leaves for pick-up . . . but hopefully you're mulch mowing, though.
Westchester County Copperhead Snake (jpg)

That's Wild!

Did you know there are 17 species of snakes native to New York, three of which are venomous? Two venomous species occur in portions of Westchester County, the Timber Rattlesnake and Northern Copperhead, though most people will never encounter either. Interested in snakes? Here's an Insider Tip: Weinberg Nature Center is home to many education animals, including snakes! In fact, the last "Friday Snakes" education program for the year is tomorrow, Friday, November 15, from 3:45 PM to 4:30 PM, so slither on by before it's too late.
Veterans Day Remembrance (jpg)

American Legion 100th Anniversary

Scarsdale Post 52 celebrated the American Legion's Centennial at the Scarsdale Golf Club on Sunday, November 10. The event was very well-attended by community members and invited dignitaries. Legion members and guests gathered the following day, Veterans Day, at the Scarsdale Memorial Garden in remembrance of the 11th Hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th Month. Speakers delivered thoughtful comments and related personal stories to honor the occasion and to thank all military members and their families for the sacrifices they have made in the name of freedom.

Village Center Light the Dale

Holiday Cheer is Near

Mark your calendars, it's the annual Light the Dale on December 06 in Boniface Circle! The event is one of the most popular ones of the year, so be sure to join friends and family as we light the tree in Boniface Circle. The holiday festivities begin at 5:00 PM, so drop-in to listen to carolers, enjoy delicious food and hot chocolate, and meet Santa after he arrives in-style on a fire truck! Please note that children of all ages are encouraged to enter for a chance to LIGHT THE TREE on the podium alongside Mayor Marc Samwick!
