Where can I discharge the water from my basement sump pump?

For best management practices, sump pumps should be connected to an owner maintained dry well or detention basin when available.  If that is not an option, permission to connect to a municipal drainage facility through the street right-of-way permit process may be a second resort.  With regard to code, sump pumps can not be discharged into a laundry tub, sink or any pipe in the house's sanitary sewer system. Sump pumps that are illegally connected to the sanitary sewer system overload the system, cause sewage to back up and are a violation of the Westchester County Sanitary Code and Village code.  All new installations of pumps, drainage facilities and related items do require permits from the Village.  Owners are strongly urged to contact Building and Engineering Department staff should they have any questions.
